June 2014 Report, Jeremy

Language Arts:

Jeremy reads daily and has good comprehension.                                                                                    
Completed portions of A Beka Literature of People                                                                                                
 Novels- The Kingdom Dawn Series Books 1-6                                                                                                                                                                               
Novel and movie study and comparison-Narnia Chronicles Books 1- 7, Four available movies, and documentary on C.S. Lewis, Beyond Narnia                                                                                                                                                                                                      
 Call of the Wild book and movie                                                                             
Jeremy continues to work on written language skills, sentence structure and punctuation.                                     
Using Logic of English videos online to improve his spelling.                                                                           
Handwriting is a struggle, but his keyboard skills are satisfactory.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 
Jeremy's strength is oral communication. He is very animated, has a good vocabulary, and enjoys taking part in discussions. He has participated in the making of several short videos, demonstrating his comedic and improvisational skills

Math:

Jeremy is using Khan Academy, and will be continuing this through the summer.                                           
His basic math skills are satisfactory. Higher math is a struggle.                                                                                                                                                              
He is also learning real life math skills, working with his Dad on construction projects.

Raising a Puppy (book)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Jeremy visits a retired neighbour, who is a mentor in various areas. He has helped him to skin a deer and an elk, and has learned how to tan a hide. He has cleaned various animal skulls and antlers, and learned about bone structure.                                                                         Jeremy demonstrates an understanding of subject matter through discussion

Social Studies:

Jeremy has an interest in the military, guns, and survival. He has learned much from his neighbour/mentor, as well as a youth leader.

Jeremy excels in history and eagerly discusses what he is learning.

Bible:

Jeremy participates in Church and weekly youth meetings. He completed the First Principles study.

Jeremy demonstrates an understanding of the material  through discussion, and is usually first to volunteer answers. 

Health:

Phys. Ed: 

Jeremy is very active and fit, and has created his own daily workout regimen.  He also particpates in organized Floor Ball, as well as other recreational sports and physical activities.

Life/Work Skills:

Jeremy has demonstrated an aptitude for construction work. He's worked with his dad on the construction of our home, from learning to tie rebar,  constructing an ICF basement,  and pouring concrete,  to wiring plugins and boarding drywall. He has quickly learned new skills, such as using power tools.   He has also helped with landscaping - sodding, planting trees, perennials and garden. He continues to help complete projects.
With neighbour/mentor- improving horseback riding skills,  and working with the horses to bring trees from the bush. He showed responsibility in looking after the horses for five days while the neighbours were away.                                                                                                                                           
Jeremy has a casual job with a farmer, vaccinating and crating chickens. It's a dirty job, but Jeremy uses his sense of humour to keep everyone entertained while they work.
Jeremy has watched the Dirty Jobs series on NetFlix in order to learn about various job choices

Making Bath Salts

  Today, we made bath salts. We added Young Living Essential Oils to Epsom salts. We made two little bottles with Peace & Calming, and two with Lavender. They are a gift for my daughter and her children, to help them sleep at night.
