The main focus of 2012 was building our new home. All three boys helped out and learned many construction skills. Eventually, we'll post a video of the construction process!
We continued to use Switched on Schoolhouse until spring. The boys initially found SOS to be a nice change from textbooks and workbooks, but after two years they became bored with it. Of the three boys, Jerry did the best with SOS.
Justin's interests are many: sports- especially hockey, music- guitar and piano, filmmaking- his Youtube Channel, and events videograpy.
He videotaped two weddings in the spring, editing the footage and creating a nice dvd for the two couples. (paying jobs)
The video below highlights some of his projects from the past year.
During the summer Justin started volunteering for Westman Communications Group, taping football games. This led to him filming and producing two 'highlight videos' for highschool football players to send out to universities....more paying jobs!
He still has a full length feature film to finish. Getting songs recorded for the movie has slowed the progress on this project. Apollos Watered
Jeremy loves history- we have a large collection of dvds listed in our resources at the top of this page.
His reading ability has really taken off...he finally realized that books are as interesting as movies!
He also loves sports, especially hockey and baseball.
This summer, while Justin was taping, Jerry also helped out in the WCG trailer, typing in scores for the game. He's hoping to do more of this in the future.
Jerry began horseback riding with our neighbour (Cameron) across the road. He's been learning lots and having a great time. He's also been helping out- finding dead trees, delimbing and cutting them, then using the horses to drag them in. They're to be used for rail fences. He also brought home a stack of magazines to learn more about horses.
In the fall Jerry helped helped Cameron skin a coyote, and saved the skull! He also helped hang a deer, skin it and take off the head....fun stuff! haha
Daniel received a guitar for Christmas. He's been wanting to learn for quite a while, so we'll be looking for lessons in the new year. We also hope to start attending the Westman Jams each month.
Danny reads constantly. I'm always looking for new reading material, but if there's nothing new, he'll just reread a book he likes!
His other main interest is drawing. We have many art books, and he has stacks of drawing pads.
Like his brothers, he loves hockey!
Danica has all the usual interests of a typical little girl. She especially loves books! She has a vivid imagination, creating imaginary friends and making up stories. She loves watching videos, listening to music, and doing art and crafts. Most nights she falls asleep listening to Adventures In Odyssey.
I thought I'd share just a glimpse of how we spent our summer and fall last year. It makes me tired just looking at these pictures. I'm so thankful to be where we are now...and ready for spring to come so we can get back at it!
